04.10.2006-05.10.2006 | Symposium on "Magnetic Separation and Nanomagnetics", Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe - Especially in the field of unit-operations as solid-liquid separation the application of hybrid processes has been and will be strongly considered.

Magnetic separation therefore is one of these developments. In the last decade the application of magnetic fields emerged from sorting processes in minerals industry into a wide range of industries. Today one can find successful uses of magnet technology in water-treatment, highly selective bio-separation, hyperthermia, drug delivery and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) only to mention a few.

The symposium “Magnetic Separation and Nanomagnetics” picks up this development and focuses on the new applications of magnetic fields without forgetting about the traditional processes. Therefore the symposium is addressed to research establishment, particle and machinery producers as well as users of magnetic particle systems and magnetic field enhanced process technology.

Apart from classical applications of magnetic fields in mineral industry for the sorting of ferrous materials special point of interest will be the use of magnet technology in bio-product downstream processing in combination with particle production and functionalisation. Thus another important issue will not only be the engineering of newly developed materials but also their characterisation by utilising magnetic fields, like Magnet Resonance Imaging.

Continuously growing demands on the efficiency of production processes and the quality of the products call for permanent improvement of existing processes and development of new process concepts.
