A unique attraction combining entertainment and educational experience will be created in Bremerhaven until March 2008. Making both hot desert climate and polar conditions perceptible for up to 5,000 daily visitors places great demands on the climate's house construction and energy supply.

Experts work on innovative climate concepts for the spectacular building which are aimed at realising the different climate zones and exhibits as energysaving as possible on an 11,500 m2 exhibition area. In order to save the greatest possible amount of energy, buildings and exhibition must be perfectly coordinated.

The functionally built exhibition units are covered with a glass façade serving as weather protection. Instead of an energy-costly air-condition the climate engineers are to create the visitor's comfort by means of natural ventilation and part refrigeration keeping the level of mechanical cold low. Through the integral planning concept the energy requirement of the climate house falls well short of the first estimates.

The »Klimahaus® Bremerhaven 8° Ost« should set a good example that others – like museums – can profit from its experiences in future.
