Alexander Bonde has been the new Secretary General of the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt - DBU) in Osnabrück since 1 February 2018. The DBU Board of Trustees, chaired by Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, appointed the former Baden-Wuerttemberg Minister of Agriculture to head the office of Europe's largest environmental foundation in Berlin on 30 November 2017. He succeeds Dr. Heinrich Bottermann, who moved to the the Ministry for Environment, Agriculture, Conservation and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as State Secretary at the end of June. Schwarzelühr-Sutter: "Alexander Bonde, with his expertise, experience and willingness to shape the DBU, together with his office and the board of trustees, will continue to develop the DBU as the central innovation promoter in the environmental sector".

Born in Freiburg, the former Minister for Rural Areas and Consumer Protection of Baden-Württemberg (2011-2016), brings many years of experience in management and strategy development of large organisations and state authorities as well as comprehensive knowledge of nature conservation and environmental protection. Most recently, Bonde worked as Senior Advisor at DWR eco, a Berlin-based agency for strategic communication, political positioning and development of new business areas in environmental protection. From 2002 to 2011 he was a member of the German Bundestag. He is married and has three children.

Succeeding Dr.-Ing. E. h. Fritz Brickwedde (March 1, 1991 to September 30, 2013) and Dr. Heinrich Bottermann (October 1, 2013 to June 29, 2017) Bonde is the third Secretary General of the DBU.
