Solvents, also known as VOC - volatile organic compounds - belong to the internationally particularly heeded air pollutants.

The Pfinder Chemie KG developed a new corrosion protection lacquer based on a watery, largely solvent-free synthetic resin dispersion. From chemical view, it is about a blocked bi-component system, that is to be processed like a single-component system: the usual preparation step of chromatization or phosphatization is dropped. Instead, specifically in the lacquer binder inserted anchor groups cause a very good adhesion of the lacquer on the metal. The chemical blocking starts already at the low desiccation temperature of 45 °C and then leads to the dispersion hardening. Since the accruing blocking medium is bound, no VOC-emissions are created.

The new single-component system guarantees constantly good corrosion protection qualities with a reduced layer thickness of approximately 35 µm on different materials like steel, elektrolytic-galvanized steel, hot-dip galvanized steel or aluminum alloys. It is very well suitable for the coating of non-view surfaces in car manufacturing, like for example axle bearings, engine parts, gearboxes or springs. Particularly modified systems are already successfully used from different automobile manufacturers. All things considered, the project leads to a clear environmental relief with simultaneously improved economic viability.
