Still a source of inspiration for landscape designers is the Branitz Park which has been created by Hermann, Prince of Pückler-Muskau between 1846 and 1871.

An example for the English landscape style, the area is divided into an inner park of 100 hectares and the much more expansive outside park. However, brown coal mining, power plant emissions as well as road construction and settlement strongly endangered the park and its population of trees.

The foundation Fürst-Pückler-Museum Park and Schloss Branitz tries intensively to preserve the tradition- steeped park. A detailed concept for maintenance and development which meets the different demands and opportunities is basis for the full redevelopment including steps to identify and improve the nutrient level and the water balance. At present, a new and extensive irrigation system is to rebalance the reduced water balance of the inner park.

With the recultivation of the Branitz Park, the preservation of historical garden monuments and nature conservation work exemplarily hand in hand. Due to the repair measures, the park flourishes again. With the already finished redevelopment of the inner park, but also with the planned reconstruction of the outside one and with a new digital information system, the area is ready to be also futurely preserved.
