One of the main goals of the ecological urban development of Bielawa is to develop the recreation area to an outside-the-classroom-experience for environmental education. The reshaping of the 7.25 hectares large theme park OWW Sudety is based on the novel »The Lord of the Rings« by J.R.R. Tolkien.

The fantastic myth world »Middle Earth« from Tolkiens novel - reinterpreted and adjusted at the localities - forms the framework, in which education, ecology, art and culture are brought together with old craft and innovative technology.
The participation of the population, local institutions and companies during the planning and construction creates a high level of identification. The theme park of »OWW Sudety« could become an European model for the combination of ecology, education and culture at one place.
