However, it is less perceived than other natural elements - even though its usage often has far reaching and long-term consequences. The extraction of groundwater for the drainage of building sites or for mining is a considerable intervention whose effects should be essentially alleviated in this research project with newly developed innovative drainage procedures which work by means of process-controlled horizontal drainage drillings. In addition to a diminition of the extraction volumes and the drain of land resources, considerable quantities of energy and material can be saved.

Model improvement aspired
The development makes use of the standard of technical schools and of field tests. Results of the project are technically and economically optimized concepts and an improved numerical model that can be put in to a feasible planning and implementation of the new innovative and ecological procedure.
