The local population supports the students when implanting the shoots on a surface of 20,000 hectares. The population‘s integration and the consideration of their interests should guarantee that the reforestation finds a sustainable acceptance.

Sögel - Brickaville: Partners for the environment
The school partnership between the Gymnasium of Sögel in Northern-Germany and the Lycée de Brickaville of Madagascar exists since 1992. Formerly, the school managements and colleagues contac-ted each others by mail and the students of the Hümmling-Gymnasium regularly collected money to support the students in Brickaville. Thanks to an internet connection, the students can keep in direct touch today.
An important component of the project is the environmental education, which is part of the lessons in geography, biology and French. In Brickaville, only few teachers are able to deal with questions of the environmental protection during the lessons. Environmental education is not part of the guidelines, furthermore they lack the means for presentation and organisation of the lessons. Therefore, the Sögel Gymansium supports the Madagascan teachers professionally as also financially.
