No matter if windows, staircases, radiation systems, balcony railings or roof tiles – well preserved building components are often too good for being shred, incinerated or land filled.
During the renovation or demolition of houses different types of full-functional components cumulate. So far, such components are being land filled or recycled, instead of being re-used. Aim of the project "bauteilnetz Germany" is to re-introduce as many of such used parts as possible into the construction cycle.
It is a simple principle: instead of deposing them, the used components are being stored until they find a buyer through an internet based platform. In order to re-introduce as many well-preserved components as possible warehouses need to be located widespread. Thus, it is regional trading centres that organize the dismantling, transport, reprocessing and installation of parts. Simultaneously, a clear web-catalogue of components facilitates the consumers search for used materials.
As a coordinator, ”Bauteilnetz Germany" supports the regional trading centres or stores by helping them to build up warehouses. Meanwhile, twelve trading centres for components have emerged, creating jobs and qualifying staff. A regional network of partners has been created that includes local authorities, craftsmen, wreckers, architects, housing associations and private individuals. The re-use of well preserved components increases the lifespan and improves the energy efficiency of building products, avoids waste and carbon emissions and by this helps to protect the climate.
