In order to display the amazing diversity of nature and to record their appeal for the integrity of creation, children, teenagers and young adults of the diocese of Paderborn set off with a microphone and video camera to produce podcasts - small online video files for a broad public. Starting in 2008, about 45 such small messages have been produced to date.
The podcasts tell little stories – for which the young filmmakers write their own scripts, travel as roving reporters, stage their ideas and produce everything by themselves. Finally, they cut and edit, and finish with music and text. The resulting climate thriller and interview documentations can be downloaded on cell phones or iPods.
Zambia meets Germany: Together on the Biodiversity Conference
The absolute highlight of the DBU-funded project was a joint work camp of the CARYM (Catholic Agricultural Rural Youth Movement) Diocesan Association of Paderborn and the Zambian partnership organization. Six young people from Zambia stayed in Germany for four weeks and produced podcasts together with their German counterparts. "Why are the cows in Germany better fed than in Zambia?" - "Are there crocodiles in Bibertal?" – the participants enthusiastically drilled down on such questions and the like with camera and microphone. Despite cultural differences and language barriers a variety of informative clips have been produced. The videos were then presented at the 9th UN biodiversity conference in Bonn, where the Zambian-German group received positive feedback and attention.
