Hiking is the healthiest way to travel – for people as well as for the environment. It inspires hearts and minds and has a positive impact on the physical fitness. Therefore, hiking offers ideal preconditions for the intake and digestion of information and impressions.
Between August 2010 and July 2011, the DBU offers the possibility to participate in eight educative hikes to exemplary environmental projects. Each of the hikes is laid out for a duration of one to two weeks and take place in selected regions of Germany under the supervision of biologist Dr. Heidi Lehmal, a trekking lover. Dr. Lehmal founded the society “10.000.000 steps – fit across Germany” in 2008. Her aim is to make these great environmental excursions a real life experience for up to 20 co-hikers.
Almost in passing knowledge is acquired through dialogue with participants and DBU-project partners. An intensive exchange about ecological questions and the possibility to form a network with interesting pioneers for the environment is on offer. In this context, the acronym DBU reveals a new meaning: “Du wist unterwegs”, “You are on the way” – on the way in Germany, the country of ideas, to research upon innovations for the environment.
The eight hikes take place between August 2010 and August 2011. More information on routes and application is available through the project website www.10000000schritte.de.
