Plastic deforming by permanent separation layer

Metal molds are used to shape plastic parts on an industrial scale.

Entformung

For a safe removal from the mold usually release agents are sprayed onto the surface of the forming tool, thus emitting large amounts of solvent. Often residues remain on the finished part and the molds. These must be removed to avoid difficulties in subsequent manufacturing steps, thereby emitting polluting solvents, too.

Together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Applied Materials Research in Bremen, the company Acmos Chemie KG, Bremen, developed dry coatings with permanent release properties with either little or no solvents needed.

Trennmittelauftrag

This method is based on the polymerisation of plasma, an innovative manufacturing process using the low-pressure plasma technology. In this way certain surface properties can be achieved - for example, an anti-adhesive effect.

Convincing release effect

Plasma polymer coatings have already shown promising success: in certain polyurethane systems the release effect functioned thousands of times without the addition of release agents. Other plastic materials such as polyolefins, polyvinyl chloride, polyester resins and thermoplastic polyurethane can be permanently removed from the mold by means of the Acmos-technology. In future, the coating may also be used for the deforming of parts made of carbon fiber reinforced plastics designed for the aerospace industry.
