The topics of »Renewable energy« and «Energy efficiency« are embedded in an age-appropriate educational concept and implemented in the Laboratory for Exploratory Learning in Social Studies (German abbr: ELISA-LAB), and the Kindergarten Laboratory (KIGA-LAB) by Prof. Dr. Brunhilde Marquardt-Mau.
In this way, the courses offered for children attending a kindergarten or a primary school are extended and the subjects become part of the training of teachers for these age groups. The project raises interest in and understanding of basic scientific methods and concepts, and the experimental discovery is intended to promote a self-contained thinking of children.
Beyond the work in the school labs, also project weeks dealing with the many aspects of energy were prepared and implemented. Thus, all children were given creative approaches to the subject of biomass as well as an insight into the topics of the other participants. Experience shows that the issue is ambitious for both the children and the students and teachers accompanying them, but also successful and rewarding if it suceeds to meet the perceptions and experiences of the learners.
