Forest planning software – for research and practice

A modern, sustainable forest management requires good planning.

With a new software, recently developed by the Northwest German Forest Research Institute, forest owners can assess the impact of measures, care or exploitation strategies. The program adresses vocational training, research, and practitioners who want to compute flexibly and analyze different scenarios.

The software allows to impair the forest by using various defined scenarios or a specific strategy which let the forest grow virtually. With the integrated GIS component the results of the scenario simulation can be displayed and evaluated. The program provides a convenient and intuitive user guidance, a special data interface, and flexible reporting options. The web application makes it easy for the user to access and work with the program because an installation is not necessary.

Compared with the forest planner, the web planner has a focused functionality which is geared to the requirements in forestry. It was specifically developed to support the daily tasks in this field. In a simple manner important information, such as wood availability, status of protection or planned activities can be retrieved and displayed in tabular form and graphically.
