Soot Particle Filter for Diesel Motors

Environmental Prizewinner Hermann Josef Schulte

Hermann Josef Schulte

»With the award of the German Environmental Prize our company experienced extraordinary recognition both in the industry and in economic circles. HJS is perceived as positive example for the compatibility of ecology and economy.«
Hermann Josef Schulte, 2003 Managing Partner of the HJS Automobile Engineering GmbH & Co. KG (now HJS Emission Technology GmbH & Co. KG).

In order for diesel motors to stay within the required emission limits, soot particle filters are essential. The firm HJS Emission Technology GmbH &Co. KG in Menden, in the Sauerland area of Germany, developed the first soot filter based on sintered metal in the 1990’s. For his outstanding pioneering achievement, HJS Manager Hermann Josef Schulte was awarded the German Environmental Prize of the DBU in 2003.

Rußfilter

Emissions reduced by more than 90 per cent

The application of a soot-filtering system, in combination with a special catalysis concept, reduced the emissions from diesel motors by more than 90 %. Sintered metal filters are characterized by light weight, a large storage volume for ash, and long durability. The typical lifespan of this type of diesel soot-filtering system is more than 500,000 kilometers.

HJS-technology in action

Today the HJS technology portfolio encompasses:

  • Diesel particle filters for the reduction of soot particles
  • SCR systems (SCR: Selective Catalytic Reduction) for the reduction of nitrous oxide (NOx).
  • SCRT® systems for the reduction of soot particles and nitrous oxide
