When drinking water is stored in mobile tanks, there is an increased risk of microbial contamination. In order to guarantee a microbiologically hygienic water quality, the water is generally chemically treated with chlorine- and silver compounds. The company Aqua Sanitec GmbH of Hamburg now offers a physical solution which dispenses with the use of environmentally harmful chemicals: a microfiltration system which almost completely hinders the growth of germs.
The core of the filtration module is a synthetic hollow-fiber membrane with a pore size of only 0.2 micrometers. For vehicles with a smaller water tank of up to 1,000 liters filling volume, there are two installation methods:
Both filter types are suitable for water amounts of up to 20 cubic meters. Subsequently, the filter is purified by the manufacturer and can be used again – up to 20 times. Through this reclaimability the microfiltration system is more cost-effective, within three years, than a comparable chemical treatment of the drinking water. In addition to human health, the environment benefits as well: the filter reduces not only the use of chemicals, but calculations also indicate the potential for reductions in greenhouse gas emissions of up to 60 percent with the innovative filter solution, as compared to
traditional chemical disinfection.
