Ultralight hybrid electrical vehicle

Light, partly human-powered hybrid vehicles offer a valid urban mobility alternative

Ultraleichtes Hybrid-E-Mobil

Half of all automobile trips involve distances of less than six kilometers. A car with a cold motor uses an excessive amount of fuel in the first three kilometers driven. This has an impact on the environment. In all, road traffic is responsible, at 18 %, for a substantial portion of CO2 emissions in Germany. Light, partly human-powered hybrid vehicles offer a valid urban mobility alternative, and an appropriate way to make city traffic more environmentally-friendly.

The company ONYX composites GmbH (of Osnabrück) is developing an ultralight hybrid vehicle with which short- to medium distances can be driven comfortably, gas-free, and in a manner which promotes good health. With a cruising radius of 25 – 50 kilometers, a maximum speed of 45 km per hour and a weight of less than 100 kilograms (without an attached battery) the two-seater is intended for use in situations in which bicycles come up against their distance- and comfort limits. Through the combination of fiber composites with successfully proven technical components from electrical bicycle construction, a vehicle which is both light and environmentally-friendly is emerging.

Reduction of city traffic

As a complement to purely electrical automobiles, the »hybrid e-mobile« offers the »missing mobility link« for urban residential spaces. This innovative vehicular concept takes the advantages of existing technology from the bicycle field and applies them to the lightweight auto. The approach offers an affordable starting point for a light – and thus efficient, sustainable and practical – means of inner-city transportation.
