At RÜGEN Natural Inheritance Center (»Naturerbe Zentrum RÜGEN«), visitors can personally and directly experience the unique natural environment and landscape of the island. This innovative recreational destination was established and constructed with the support of the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, DBU) in cooperation with the DBU Naturerbe GmbH and the Erlebnis AKADEMIE AG of Bad Kötzting. Visitors of all ages can come here to experience and understand nature.
Trained nature and landscape guides point out new perspectives on Rügen’s landscape, for example during guided hikes to the famous »flint stone fields« (Feuersteinfelder). A true magnet for visitors is the 1,250-meter-long, barrier-free treetop path with interactive »experience stations«. Its highlight is the 40-meter-high viewing tower, which is modeled on an eagle’s eyrie. At a height of 82 meters above sea level, it offers a unique view of the island. In the long-term exhibition »Let Nature Take Its Course«, visitors playfully learn more about subjects surrounding the DBU Natural Inheritance. Special exhibitions which change every six months also invite visitors to experiment, make discoveries, and take a close and clear look at their own lifestyles.
Under the guiding principle »experience and grasp nature with all of the senses«, the »NaturLabor« was created on the premises of the Naturerbe Zentrum RÜGEN as a DBU-funded project. Here (primarily) school- and youth groups may gather experience in nature and natural sciences with experiments and excursions, but also through creative activities. A program custom-tailored to the visiting group guarantees a good linkage to the corresponding lesson plans.
