The German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, DBU) is making fellowship grants in 2016 for displaced university graduates living in Germany, in subjects related to environmental protection, under the framework of its Fellowship Program with CEE Countries. The DBU Board has agreed on the funding of 10 fellowships. The target group is refugees (e.g., from Syria) with above-average Master’s degrees. Good knowledge of German or English is a prerequisite for application.

Fellowship grant recipients will spend a six- to twelve-month research and advanced training residency in German research institutions, environmental authorities or companies, in order to gain experience in diverse fields of environmental- and nature protection, which is to be implemented later in their home countries. The fellowship program begins with a four-week introductory period in Osnabrück featuring intensive German language courses, excursions and cultural programs. During the fellowship period the DBU offers an extensive accompanying program, consisting of seminars, professional events, Summer Academy etc., and joint functions with other DBU fellowship programs in progress.
