Sporting and pleasure boats are still regularly coated with poisonous “antifouling” coatings containing biocides to protect them from organic growth. Although the amounts used are small in comparison with commercial shipping, the highly-potent coatings nonetheless represent a serious danger for users and for the environment. At the BOOT 2014 (“BOATS 2014“ Trade Fair, 18 – 26 January) the DBU will present, in cooperation with various project partners, new and environmentally-friendly alternatives for antifouling protection and the chemical purification of drinking water.
