Information on Grant Support Activities of the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt)

1.) New DBU General Secretary: Alexander Bonde

On February 1st, 2018, Alexander Bonde will become the new General Secretary of the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, DBU) in Osnabrück. The DBU Board of Trustees appointed the 42-year-old former Baden-Württemberg State Minister of Agriculture on 30 November in Berlin, to head the business premises of Europe’s largest environmental foundation.

As a former Minister for Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection of Baden-Württemberg (2011-2016), the Freiburg native brings many years of experience in leading and developing strategy for major organizations and state authorities, as well as comprehensive knowledge of conservation and environmental protection. Most recently, Bonde filled the role of Senior Advisor with DWR eco, a Berlin agency for strategic communication, political positioning, and the development of new business sectors in environmental protection. From 2002 to 2011 he was a member of the German Parliament (Bundestag). He is married and has three children.

Following Dr.-Ing. E.h. Fritz Brickwedde (1 March 1991 to 30 September 2013) and Dr. Heinrich Bottermann (1 October 2013 to 29 June 2017), Bonde is the third General Secretary of the DBU.
