3.) "Die Laube" - from Kreuzberg to Seoul

In the center of the Prinzessinnengärten, an urban vegetable gardening space in Berlin-Kreuzberg, “Die Laube” was completed in mid-2017. Like a lighthouse, this vertical garden building now stands 10 meters above the city gardens, and has expanded the area’s usable space to 280 square meters. The modular wood building was developed by Florian Köhl (fatkoehl architects) in cooperation with Christian Burkhard and Marco Clausen (Prinzessinnengärten) and was built together with volunteers from the neighborhood between 2015 and 2017. The project is centered around the use of knowledge acquired through Learning-by-Doing about sustainable construction, community “urban development”, the advantages of do-it-yourself building, sustainable architecture in public spaces, and environmentally-friendly urban gardening practices. In the "Laube", workshops, exhibitions and discussions also take place around the issue of how the transformation to a sustainable society can succeed.
