Assistance for the construction of underground infrastructure projects provides a new assessment procedure supported by the DBU

2.) Assessment procedures for underground infrastructure

Open or closed design? What is the better alternative?

A recently completed study of the GSTT Consulting Service GmbH (Hamburg University) in cooperation with the Ruhr University Bochum, Institute for Tunnelling, Pipeline and Construction Management, looked into this question.

Developed were practical assessment procedures for decision-makers, including those from the municipal sector, the environmental and economic sector and they delivered comprehensible recommendations. In order to make complex mathematical computations manageable, a special software (Demus-Decision Management for Underground Infrastructure) has been developed.

It also makes it possible to ensure a flexible and individual adjustment of the valuation hierarchy for a specific project. In this way, the decision process is designed for project participants in a plausible and transparent manner. The assessment methodology has since been used in several cable tunnel and tunnel traffic projects and has passed the first test for usability and user friendliness.
