Woche der Umwelt 2012

2.) Around 200 exhibitors at 4th »Week of the Environment«

After 2002, 2004 and 2007, the 4th »Week of the Environment« is taking shape. Around 200 exhibitors will present their pioneering environmental and conservation projects on 5th and 6th June in the park of Schloss Bellevue in Berlin, the official residence of the Federal President. Around 550 companies, associations, institutions and initiatives have applied for the event.  According to DBU Secretary General Fritz Brickwedde shows the tremendous response that the environmental sector is the key market of the future. An independent jury has selected the candidates according to the criteria of quality, innovation and model character.

An area of over 3,000 square meters provides plenty of space, not only for the exhibitors, but also for about 80 forums and 12,000 visitors from science, politics and economy. On the main stage, experts will inform the audience about innovative developments and discuss a range of topics from various perspectives: How to bring about the energy transition? What are the visions in nature conservation? How mobile is our society in the future? The discussions are arranged and presented by Deutschlandfunk/Deutschlandradio.

Save energy when drying clothes

Among the exhibitors is, for example, the company Solvis which presents in cooperation with the home appliance manufacturer Miele a tumble dryer that is powered by a solar thermal system. Compared with conventional dryers it can save up to 80 percent energy and costs.

Carbon footprint of farms

Agricultural production will play an important role during the event. The Bodensee Stiftung, for example, presents the project »AgriClimateChange«. Together with partners from France, Italy and Spain, it has managed to develop the software ACCT which allows to analyze the energy balances and carbon footprints of farms. Based on the results, specific measures can be developed to improve the carbon footprint gradually.

More responsibility for the common living environment

Even the Turkish-speaking working group of Friends of the Earth Germany (BUND), »YEŞİL Cember« (Green Circle) participates in the event. It mobilizes people and organizations with an immigrant background to take over responsibility for the common living environment and encourages them to act as voluntary environmentalist
