With the presentation of its German Environmental Prize, the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, DBU) “appeals to the international community of nations to take advantage of the upcoming 2015 conference in Paris to set a course for the future which can give humanity a chance to live safely on a stable planet”, according to DBU General Secretary Dr. Heinrich Bottermann.
On November 8th in Essen, German President Joachim Gauck will hand the largest independent environmental prize in Europe to the climate- and marine researcher Prof. Dr. Mojib Latif (60) of Kiel, and to the global activist and sustainability scientist Prof. Dr. Johan Rockström (49) of Stockholm. The award is endowed with € 500,000. This year’s DBU Outstanding Achievement Award goes to Prof. em. Dr. Michael Succow (74) of Greifswald. He is recognized both nationally and internationally as an exceptional figure in nature conservation, and his activities toward saving major wilderness areas in Germany are considered unique.
