1.) DBU receives 23 additional parcels of land for the National Natural Heritage

More space for nature: with the contract signing of 28 October, the DBU Naturerbe GmbH, nonprofit subsidiary of the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, DBU), receives a further 23 parcels of land (some 9,000 hectares) for the National Natural Heritage from the German federal government, effective October 1st 2017. In all, the DBU is thus responsible as trustee for the preservation and development of 70 areas, mostly former military training areas, covering around 69,000 hectares of land. “The National Natural Heritage is a uniquely successful story,” emphasized federal Environmental Minister Dr. Barbara Hendricks at the presentation in Haltern. The DBU, as the largest receiver of land areas, plays a leading role in the National Natural Heritage, as explained by the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance, Jens Spahn. With their signatures, Hendricks, Spahn, Cajus Caesar as Chairperson of the DBU Natural Heritage Council, and DBU General Secretary Dr. Heinrich Bottermann sealed and finalized the land transfer.
