2.) Jugendwerkstatt Wandelbar – young people shaping the future

Jugendwerkstatt Wandelbar, a German youth workshop, is looking for new approaches to combining experimental spaces, knowledge transfer and civic engagement. The pilot project for youth participation, which was a joint venture between the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation (BMU) and the DBU, took place from 18 to 24 August 2019 at the Urwald-Life-Camp Lauterbach youth hostel in Thuringia. The theme of the workshop was “We shape the future”. It provided 90 teenagers and young adults with an opportunity to develop ideas, concepts and challenges for a sustainable future society in independent formats. A nine-person team of young adults began developing the youth workshop in February 2019 and was fully responsible for both the concept and carrying out the workshop itself.

The week-long event produced two results: One is the WandelBar exhibit, a booth where the group recorded their visions and demands for the future and which is now traveling around Germany. The other is a position paper addressed to the German government that will be presented in November during a German Federal Press Conference.
