2.) From Environmental Education: Project EnergieweltenPLUS Establishes Basics of Climate Education in the Classroom

The Saerbecker Energiewelten learning site has been established in the Saerbeck Bioenergy Park by the funding association Klimakommune Saerbeck. There are wind energy, photovoltaic and biogas plants on the site. Visitors can take a direct look at these. The learning site is a competence center for education for sustainable development as well as for career orientation with a focus on renewable energies and energy transition.

Pupils learn about courses of study and apprenticeships in the field of energy transition on site. The DBU projectEnergieweltenPLUS from the IPN - Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education in Kiel takes advantage of this and focuses on the topic of energy transition in the area of career orientation. Training and continuing education programs for teachers are being developed to establish the topic in the classroom. The challenge: the topics of climate change, causes, consequences and how to deal with them cannot be assigned to just one subject. For this reason, a study is currently being conducted with experts from science and schools. Modules for teacher training are being developed on the basis of the study results. After an initial practical trial phase in spring 2022, further courses will then be available for teachers.
