Trecker am Düngen

2.) Grant initiative: »Reduction of nitrogen emissions«

As a basic building block of protein, nitrogen is one of the most important preconditions for life and the motor of all growth.

When applied in agricultural land use, however, nitrogen compounds can lead to complex environmental effects such as groundwater pollution with nitrate, eutrophication, release of nitrous oxide and of ammonia. Nitrogen as a nutritional source is essential; undesirable environmental side effects must be avoided to the extent possible. The grant prioritizes the optimization of nitrogen management through:

  • Measures for carefully controlled, limited and timely fertilizer application depending strictly on plant requirements
  • Technological and process development for the avoidance of nitrogen loss in the storage and application of agribusiness fertilizers
  • Implementation of model-based fertilizer advisory concepts in practice.
