achtgeschossigen Holzhaus

2.) First Eight-Storey Wooden Building in Germany

Through intensive research, new applications of wood as a building material are being realized. With the development of a wood construction concept for the erection of buildings of up to eight levels, the primary objective is the establishment of wood construction as an option in the area of multi-storey dwellings. On the basis of a four-storey wooden structure, solutions for a fundamentally wood-specific approach to buildings up to the high-rise building limit were elaborated.

For the central aspects of the supporting framework, fire prevention and soundproofing, building components were developed and then integrated into a flexible-utility, creatively attractive overall concept. These aspects include massive inner- and outer walls of wood, as well as massive wood ceilings. The newly-developed fire prevention concept allows for the implementation of visible wood surfaces in both the facades and the interior ceilings.

In regard to soundproofing, the stricter requirements for ceilings and walls were successfully met. The extremely short assembly time of two days for each level was achieved thanks to substantial use of prefabricated materials, and brings both technical and economic advantages. The final result is a successfully proven concept based on the first eight-storey wooden building in Germany, in the town of Bad Aibling.
