2.) Bielawa, Poland: evolution of an ecological model city

To mark the occasion of Poland’s 10th anniversary as a member of the European Union, an “Open Door Day” took place from May 1^st – 10th across the country. Distinguished EU-funded projects made their public facilities available for viewing. Two of these projects are located in Bielawa and were funded by the DBU in cooperation with the EU. Both projects involve the

• Construction of a Forest School in Bielawa” (grant amount: 120,000 €) and the
• Establishment of the Information Center on Renewable Energy for Children and Adolescents in Bielawa’s Historic Pump Station” (grant amount: 125,000 €).

Bielawa (formerly “Langenbielau”) has for some time pursued the goal of becoming an ecological model city within Poland. In this connection, the city has been supported by the DBU in a number of related undertakings.
