2.) Protection for tree-lined roads in Germany and the Czech Republic

The number of requests for assistance in the preservation of historic tree-lined roads has increased substantially. Contemporary tree-lined roads must meet various standards in the areas of historical- and nature preservation, agronomy and agriculture, tourism, and transport. At the same time, existing historical examples are endangered by the effects of human-caused environmental factors such as known air pollutants, but also by developments related to climate change. For that reason, effective protection of tree-lined roads can only come about through the cooperation of all affected parties. Toward that end, a pair of management systems for these “tree alleys” is planned within the framework of a proposal by the Insula Rugia e. V., of Bergen, based on the respective examples of rural regions on the island of Rügen and of selected areas in the Czech Republic – and inspired by platforms already in existence.
