2.) Material Flow Model for Pharmaceutical Residues in Water Supplies

What are the effects of micro- and nano-concentrations of agricultural- and pharmaceutical residues in our waters? What can be done to prevent the damage? And where can new approaches to emissions reduction be found which are not only efficient, but also make fair distribution of the costs possible?

These questions are addressed by a practice-oriented research project with specific regional relevance to the waste water companies in Plauen, Chemnitz and Dresden, with the scientific cooperation and under the direction of the Technical University of Dresden (TUD). The project is supported by the company Gelsenwasser AG, the Saxony Ministry of the Environment, and the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, DBU). The challenge consists of developing, for each of these respective local situations, a material flow model capable of simulating the possible load scenarios, in order to provide a strong basis for decisions on the management of material flows.
