In mid-January, 200 participants accepted invitations to the two-day DBU environmental education conference “Sustainability Education in Times of Great Challenges” in the DBU Center for Environmental Communication. The themes “Planetary Guidelines” (see DBU aktuell 09/15), “Anthropocene” (see DBU aktuell 01/16) and “Major Transformation” recurred regularly throughout the presentations and discussions among the environmental education experts. In his introduction, DBU General Secretary Dr. Heinrich Bottermann emphasized the importance of sustainability education with high standards which is inclusive and provides equal opportunities: the establishment of a secure sphere of action for humanity must take place within planetary guidelines, so that the general viability of earth systems may be preserved.
