2.) A closer look at supplies for half a million conference guests

Apples from New Zealand, bananas from Costa Rica, cucumbers from Spain: before food from foreign countries lands in the shopping cart, large amounts of environmentally harmful greenhouse gases are released through production, processing, transport and storage. A great deal of food also spoils while being transported, and must be disposed of. “It doesn’t have to be that way!”, says DBU General Secretary Dr. Heinrich Bottermann. Consumers, dealers and producers must therefore all pull together and strengthen sustainable regional economic cycles.
