2.) Four new green start-ups in the DBU-programme - continued support secured

The DBU's Green Startup Special Programme supports start-ups that combine solutions for the environment, ecology and sustainability with a focus on digitalization in an innovative way. Recently, the Berlin start-ups BRIVE Fleet Solutions, AckerCompany and HEDERA as well as DroidDrive from Aachen were selected for the special program and will receive a total of EUR 428,000 from the foundation.

With the "Ducktrain", the young company DroidDrive aims to build a lightweight electric vehicle that will enable climate-friendly transport of parcels in city centers. Large delivery vehicles would then no longer have to drive into city centers, avoiding problems caused by poor parking, traffic jams and environmental pollution. The funding will be used to develop a prototype that can independently follow leading objects.

The start-up HEDERA offers digital solutions to provide information needed for a green microcredit in a concisely way. Green microcredits are important for developing and emerging countries to finance sustainable projects there and relieve people and the environment.

AckerCompany is developing an app-based gardening concept. The company's own gardens are to be cultivated. Harvesting and farming should not only strengthen team spirit, but also increase environmental awareness and understanding of biological processes.

The idea of BRIVE starts with the user behaviour of drivers of parcel services, taxi companies or haulage companies, as their driving style influences fuel consumption, wear and tear and repairs of their vehicles. The driving behaviour is anonymously analyzed and evaluated by sensors in the smartphone. The app then makes suggestions for a more environmentally friendly driving style.

In August and November 2019, four young companies were already accepted into the Green Start-up Programme (see DBU aktuell 06/2019 and 10/2019). The special programme will be continued this year - with a special focus on female entrepreneurs. In the future, support for green start-ups will be integrated into the regular DBU support.
