3.) Venues for the DBU Environmental Award selected

25 event and exhibition halls had applied to host Europe's largest environmental award, worth EUR 500,000. Now six of them have been selected for the coming years by decision of the DBU Board of Trustees: In Lübeck (2023), Mainz (2024), Chemnitz (2025), Aachen (2026), Freiburg (2027) and in Osnabrück (2028).

To do so, the applicants had to meet several conditions - for example, the basic technical and spatial requirements for an event with around 1,200 guests. The most important prerequisite, however, were sustainability criteria.

"When organizing conferences, fairs and major events, we make sure that the sustainability standard initiated by the German Convention Bureau and the European Association of Event Centres is adhered to," says DBU general secretary Alexander Bonde. These "Green Meetings" are characterized, for example, by energy-saving air-conditioning and ventilation systems or lighting with LED technology. A further criterion is that as many guests as possible should be able to travel to the event by public transport.

By the way: The next Environmental Award will be presented on 25 October 2020 in the Hannover Congress Centrum.
