Chemical leasing is a service-oriented business model: rather than selling chemicals, a function is sold together with an expert and environmentally-compatible utilization. In hospitals, for example, the rendered cleaning service is compensated and not the amount of disinfecting agent used. In keeping with this idea, the company Schülke & Mayr GmbH, of Norderstedt, initiated a chemical-leasing project in cooperation with the Worms Clinic and Leuphana University of Lüneburg. The goal was to improve protection against infections in hospitals and reduce the use of disinfecting agents.
