1.) Reversing the trend: creating more biosphere- and species diversity

According to a newly published study from the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, the trend toward diminishing biodiversity in Germany continues unabated. This is true in spite of the fact that the number and size of protected areas in all categories (national parks, nature reserves, FFH areas, national natural heritage) has increased. In addition, substantial grant funds have been made available in order to preserve threatened species and their living spaces.

The pressing question which now presents itself: how can this decline in habitable space, and the associated native species, be stopped?

The bottom line: in order to reverse the negative biodiversity trend, it is above all essential that spaces important for nature conservation be secured in terms of property rights and actively managed, but also, to cooperate--on spaces in use--with the administrators, to agree upon and implement nature conservation goals with the highest of standards. Various types of protected resources require quite different protection strategies. If these guidelines are heeded, the trend toward biodiversity loss in Germany can be reversed.
